Frequently Asked Questions

A few answers to questions that we're often asked.

What is an Electrical Installation Condition Report?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report, commonly known as an EICR, is an inspection and testing report that assesses the safety and condition of an electrical installation. It checks for defects, damage, deterioration and potential safety risks, helping establish whether the installation is suitable for continued use. Durasol Renewables can carry out EICRs for homes, rental properties and commercial premises.

Who needs an EICR?

EICRs are useful for homeowners, landlords, businesses and property managers. Landlords in England must generally arrange an electrical safety inspection at least every five years, or sooner if the previous report requires it. Homeowners may also arrange an EICR when buying or selling a property, after major renovation work, when an installation is older or whenever electrical safety is a concern.

What does an EICR inspection involve?

An EICR involves a qualified electrician carrying out a visual inspection and a series of electrical tests. These checks assess the condition of wiring, sockets, switches, consumer units, earthing, protective devices and other parts of the electrical installation. Some testing may require temporary power interruptions, but the electrician will explain the process and any necessary precautions beforehand.

How long does an EICR take?

The time required for an EICR depends on the size, age and complexity of the property, as well as the condition of the electrical installation. A smaller home may take less time than a larger property or commercial premises with multiple circuits. Durasol Renewables can provide a more accurate estimate once we understand the property and the scope of the inspection.

What happens if my EICR identifies electrical problems?

If an EICR identifies defects or potential safety risks, the report will record the findings and indicate whether remedial work is required. Durasol Renewables can explain the results and recommend suitable repairs, replacements or upgrades. Depending on the findings, this may include repairing damaged wiring, replacing faulty accessories, upgrading protective devices or carrying out further testing to confirm that the installation is safe.
